PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville athletics had a week of personal bests in the sports that competed. Baseball fought for critical wins while track and field continues to rewrite its record books, narrowing selection for Valiant of the Week.
JAYDA BIRCH – TRACK AND FIELD
The women's team led the squad in Hartford's Rage in the Cage, competing in seven events and recording five to the program's all-time top ten. Jayda Birch (Queens, N.Y./Excelsior Preparatory) led the way with standout efforts in both field and track. The senior threw a shot put to the mark of 11.49 meters, the third-best in program history, earning a third-place finish. She also posted a strong performance in the 400-meter, placing third with a time of 1:08.10, which ranks seventh all-time for the Valiants.
RYAN McCANN – BASEBALL
Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood) led his team in game one on the final day of a seven-game stretch. The Valiants split the day with New Paltz, in the game one victory McCann allowed only two hits, a career best in a complete-game shutout, while recording a season-high seven strikeouts and giving up two free bases. The day marked his fifth career complete-game shutout, his first against a non-conference team.
