AMHERST, Mass. – Making their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Manhattanville University women's tennis team was defeated by No. 16 Amherst College in the opening round of the 2026 Division III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. The Valiants will close out the 2025-26 season with a 10-3 record overall.
The Mammoths took the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 victories in the top two flights. Manhattanville's leading tandem of
Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) were bested by Tina She and Karolina Dobiecka, while
Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College), making her senior season debut, was defeated alongside her partner
Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) by Lily Dounchis and Rachel Roth.
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) and
Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) trailed 5-0 to Sophie Doph and Maddie Swire in No. 3s when the other matches came to a close.
Lalman was the lone Valiant to win a game in singles play, taking one against Sameera Talwar in No. 5 singles before ultimately dropping the set 6-1. The Manhattanville rookie would trail 3-0 in the second set when the Mammoths captured their fourth point of the afternoon to secure the win.
Amherst captured the first point with a straight-set win by Swire over Gutierrez in No. 6 play. Diop then defeated
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) in a sweep in No. 2s before She put the finishing touches on her 6-0, 6-0 win against Filippelli on the show court to send the Mammoths to the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday against Swarthmore.
Doyle trailed Rother 0-6, 0-3 in No. 3s while Addison was behind 0-6, 0-5 in No. 4s to Dounchis when She captured the match winner.
