PURCHASE, N.Y. – Tiernan McLaughlin (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and Jesse James de Ruiter (Hoensbroek, the Netherlands/Eijkhagen Charlemagne College) of the Manhattanville University men's soccer team were recognized by the Skyline Conference on Monday as the tandem were selected as the Skyline Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 13.

McLaughlin had a five-point weekend at the Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh, scoring twice and picking up an assist. The senior set up the game-winning goal with the helper on Friday in the Valiants' 3-2 victory over SUNY Potsdam. McLaughlin then provided the whole of the offense on Saturday against host Plattsburgh, scoring twice in the final nine minutes of the contest to lead Manhattanville to the 2-1 victory and improve the team's record to 3-0-2 on the year.

In the Valiant net, de Ruiter picked up his first two wins of his Valiant career at the Cardinal Classic. The junior came on in relief on Friday, playing the final 30 minutes against Potsdam as the Valiants rallied for the comeback victory. He then got the starting nod in Saturday's tilt against Plattsburgh, making three saves across a full 90 minutes of work to improve to 2-0-2 in his first season with Manhattanville.

McLaughlin, de Ruiter and the Valiants look to continue their hot start to the year on Wednesday when the team takes on Rutgers-Newark on the road at 7 p.m.
