Chris Gruarin

Chris Gruarin returns for his second season as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Manhattanville baseball team in 2017.

Gruarin helped lead the Valiants to a 25-16 record during the 2016 season, including a trip to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season.  Working primarily with the team's outfielders, Gruarin guided freshman outfielder Luke Scoggins to Manhattanville Male Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the All-MAC Freedom second team. He also saw three more players earn a spot on the All-Conference first team, including Robbie Lynch, who was named MAC Freedom Player of the Year and a consensus All-Region selection.

Gruarin comes to Manhattanville after graduating from Canisius College in 2013 with his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health.

Gruarin spent the last two years as a long-term substitute teacher in various school districts in the Buffalo, N.Y. area.  During this time, he has also served as the assistant baseball coach for Grand Island Central High School, as well as head coach of the Jr. Canisius Griffins 14U baseball team.

During his time at Canisius, Gruarin was a three-year letter winner, where he hit .270 with nine homeruns and 69 runs batted in.  He also helped lead the team to a conference championship during his senior season.

A native of Niagara Falls, Gruarin currently resides in Purchase as he pursues his master’s degree in Sport Management.
