Michael Cameron

Michael Cameron completed his second year as head coach of the Manhattanville College men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams in the 2022-23 academic year.

In his second season in Purchase, Cameron began the year in the fall cross country season as the Valiants would have both the men's and women's teams place at the Conference Championship race for the first time since 2017. The women's team placed 6th out of 11 teams while the men finished in seventh in the field of 11. As focus shifted to track and field season, Cameron continued to develop his student-athletes throughout the season. Numerous performances throughout the winter and spring made their way into the record books, highlighted by George Davidson-Dennis setting a new outdoor discus record of 31.18 meters. For his work, Cameron was named the Skyline's Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Cameron took the helm of both programs in the Fall of 2021, beginning his Manhattanville tenure for the cross country season. The Valiants competed at seven meets in the season, with senior standout Carter Somme leading the way in his first year running cross country. Somme was Manhattanville's top runner at every event in the year en route to being named the Skyline Conference's Rookie of the Year and an All-Conference First Team selection. Heading into the spring, Cameron carried over the success into the track and field season, with a number of Valiants competing their way into the program record books. Somme completed his senior season as the holder of the top four times in the men's outdoor 5K with a series of great runs throughout the season. Throughout the season, Somme and Justin Gonzalez would go on to post new program records in the 5000 meter and the triple jump, respectively. The duo would set the final records at the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship meet.

Cameron joined Manhattanville following a two-year stint as an assistant track and field coach at the University of Hartford. During his tenure overseeing the throwers with the Hawks’ track and field teams, Cameron was involved with the recruitment and development of 10 student-athletes that broke seven program records. In 2021, he coached the Women’s D1 Outdoor East Regional Javelin thrower. Serving as Hartford’s throwing coach, he also developed training plans for the throwers and multi-event athletes. Cameron was also involved in organizing travel and lodging accommodations for the team’s events and monitoring the student-athletes’ academic performances.

Prior to Hartford, Cameron spent a pair of years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University. Working with the Owls’ throwers, he coached a pair of Northeast-10 Conference champions.

Cameron found plenty of success while as a student at Southern Connecticut. He was named the 2015 NCAA East Regional Field Athlete of the Year and was a four-time All-American in men’s track and field. Cameron earned three Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Year distinctions, and received six NE10 Athletic Conference Honor Roll Awards.

Cameron graduated from Southern Connecticut in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.
