MAC Freedom Coach of the Year
2016, 2017, 2018, 2019
Arlen Marshall ’10 completed his fifth season at the helm of the Manhattanville men's golf program in 2018-19. A former hockey standout at Manhattanville, he also serves as head coach of the Valiant men's hockey team during the winter.

The Valiants picked up their fourth straight MAC Freedom crown under Marshall's guidance in 2018-19. This is the fourth season in a row they made it to NCAAs, while Marshall earned his fourth consecutive MAC Freedom Coach of the Year accolade as well. All five golfers at the conference championship tournament earned All-MAC Freedom honors, led by First Team selection junior Rob Andrews.

Manhattanville earned a third consecutive MAC Freedom title in Marshall's fourth year at the helm, as the Valiants rallied on day two to post a three-stroke victory and the program's sixth MAC Freedom title in the last nine years. Under his watch, Chandler Longfellow became the program's first back-to-back MAC Freedom Player of the Year, finishing the year with the fifth-lowest single-season scoring average in school history.

Marshall led the Valiants to a second straight MAC Freedom championship in 2017 with a wire-to-wire victory. He became the first Valiant head coach to be named Conference Coach of the Year in two different sports in the same season (golf and hockey) and led three Valiants to All-Conference honors, including MAC Freedom Player of the Year Chandler Longfellow and fellow All-Conference first-team pick Jason Siegel.

In his second year at the helm, Marshall was named the MAC Freedom Coach of the Year after guiding the Valiants to their first MAC Freedom Championship under his watch, as his squad overcame a 13-stroke deficit on day two to capture the title. Bryan Platt was named MAC Freedom Co-Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-Conference selection, while John Maiolo and Joseph Mullarkey earned All-Conference second-team honors as well.

Despite taking over the reins of the program just before the start of the season, Marshall helped to get the Valiants back on the right track in 2014-15, guiding the squad to a second-place finish at the Freedom Conference Championships and coming a single stroke short of a conference title. Three Valiants (Eric Michalak, Mullarkey and Tanner Hicks) also earned All-Freedom Conference recognition after the season as well.

Marshall has been a fixture at Manhattanville since 2006, playing four years on the ice for the nationally ranked men's hockey team before spending two years as an assistant coach before taking over as head coach of the men's hockey team in 2012. As head coach, he has guided the Valiants to four ECAC West Conference Tournament appearances and a berth in the 2013 conference championship game, in addition to producing 14 ECAC West All-Conference selections.

His first coaching role came after completing one of the most prolific on-ice careers in Valiant hockey history. A two-year co-captain who wore a letter in three of his four seasons, Marshall completed his career as one of just three Manhattanville players to reach the 100-point plateau thanks to 38 goals and 64 assists in 105 career games. He graduated third in career points, fourth in assists and sixth in goals all-time at the school, while also departing second in games played and sixth in power-play goals for a career.

A native of Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, Marshall graduated from Manhattanville in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science. He also received his master’s degree in sports business management from the school in 2012.
