Alex Sandri was appointed as the head tennis coach at Manhattanville College in August of 2021. He completed his fourth full season as the head coach of both the men's and women's teams in the 2024-25 campaign.

Sandri led the women's tennis team to another stellar season in fall 2024 as the Valiants posted a perfect 6-0 record in conference play, the first undefeated mark since 2005. Manhattanville flirted with repeating as conference champs, falling just short in November's Skyline Finals, but there was still plenty to celebrate. Sandri earned his second Skyline Coach of the Year award--his first with the women's team--while all four of Manhattanville's top players earned All-Conference recognition. Suzi Doyle, Amaya Ortiz, Addison-Mercedes Ortiz and Adrianna Filippelli were selected to the Skyline First Team, with Filippelli also being named Rookie of the Year by both the Skyline and Manhattanville University.

The men's team went through a rebuilding year in the spring of 2025, finishing 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the Skyline. Sandri was still able to continue his success in developing talent, as freshman Lev Uitterhoeve made the All-Conference First Team while junior Derwin Guzman made the Second Team for the first time in his career.

In fall 2023, Sandri led the greatest single-season turnaround in the history of the women's tennis program, taking a team that went 0-10 the year before and leading them to a conference title. The Valiants wen 8-3 during the fall semester with a 4-2 mark against the Skyline Conference to earn the No. 3 seed. Manhattanville won both postseason road matches by finals of 5-4, knocking off No. 2 Farmingdale in the semis before upending top-seed Saint Joseph's Long Island to win the team's first conference title since 2006 and earn the program's first-ever NCAA Torunament berth in the spring. Bea Pretnar became the first player to earn Conference Player of the Year recognition under Sandri, while she, Keto Karkashadze, Suzi Doyle and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz each earned All-Conference recognition.

In the spring 2024 campaign, Sandri had the Valiants making a third-straight appearance in the Skyline Championship finals. Going 5-1 against the conference in the regular season, Manhattanville earned the No. 2 seed for the postseason and defeated No. 3 Merchant Marine on the Manhattanville Tennis Courts in the semifinals. The Valiants fought hard but ultimately came up just short in the finals against the top-seeded Farmingdale State Rams, 4-5. Seniors James Hourihan and Weston Goodwin capped off their collegiate careers by each earning All-Conference distinctions.

In his second season, Sandri led the men's tennis team to their second-straight Skyline Conference Finals. The Valiants finished the year 9-5 after a second-consecutive 7-0 conference regular season, holding the No. 1 seed for a second year in a row. While a repeat of an NCAA Tournament appearance was not in the cards as Manhattvnille was bested in the championship match by Farmingdale, the Valiants sent the pairing of Hourihan and Goodwin to the All-Conference Team, with Hourihan making the First Team and Goodwin a Second Team selection. On the women’s front, Sandri helped Ally Petricca, a graduate student that had previously only played collegiate lacrosse, into a Second Team All-Conference selection in the Fall.

Sandri led the women’s tennis team to four wins in his inaugural season in the Fall 2021 campaign, with Renay Charley and Bea Pretnar making the Skyline First Team. In Spring 2022, he led the men’s team to a 13-6 record, with the team going 7-0 in conference play and winning its first-ever conference championship to secure their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Sandri was voted Skyline Co-Coach of the Year while Hourihan, Goodwin and Ryan Rosenberg earned All-Conference recognition.

Reigning from Curitiba, Parana in Brazil, Sandri finds himself back at Manhattanville with a wealth of knowledge and experience on and off the court. With wit to back up his play, Sandri received a Bachelor of Arts  in physical health and wellness at Bethany College in 2013 before getting back to back Masters Degrees, one in recreation administration at Illinois State in 2016 and another in sports business management from Manhattanville in 2019.

Starting in 2014, Sandri was the tennis pro at the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club in Millbrook, New York, where he was in charge of managing summer camps, adult clinics, private lessons and coaching the USTA women’s tennis team. Sandri utilized these talents at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, where he held a full time position from September of 2016 to May of 2017 developing juniors, tournaments and adult programs including fitness training, technique, strategy and competitive play. Sandri held a similar position at the Spring Woodlands Tennis Academy several years earlier in Spring, Texas.

As a graduate assistant at Illinois State, Sandri assisted the head coach with player development while planning and organizing team travels, recruiting prospective student athletes and supporting all other aspects of the program. Filling the same duties at Manhattanville College, Sandri overlooked recruiting, helping to build the men’s and women’s tennis programs from scratch. In his first season with the Valiants, Sandri led by example, helping the men’s team to reach the Skyline Conference finals and the women’s team reach the Skyline Conference semifinal.

Sandri is also a USPTA member as of 2017 as well as being recognized for an extensive number of awards during his collegiate playing days at Bethany College such as ranking third in ITA Central Region doubles and 15th nationally, leading the team in doubles wins with 22 in his senior year. In addition to his success on the tennis court, Sandri has also been recognized for his work off of it. In both his junior and senior seasons, Sandri received the IMA Corp., All-KCAC Champions of Character Award for tennis. The All-KCAC Champions of Character Award is given to student-athletes who demonstrate Champions of Character’s five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and servant leadership on and off the field. He also won Bethany College’s Character Award for Men’s Tennis during his junior year.

Sandri currently resides in Stamford, Connecticut, while he resumes his duties as the men’s and women’s tennis coach for Manhattanville College.
