Gabriel Gamarra was appointed as an assistant coach of the women’s basketball team at Manhattanville College prior to the 2020-21 season.
Gamarra comes to Manhattanville after spending a year with the Division I Manhattan College women’s basketball program. With the Jaspers, he was the special assistant to the head coach and assisted her and the team with many duties. He assisted with data entry into ARMS, a team management software, as well as created graphics and videos for team social accounts. He also helped coaches create and run practice drills and was in charge of game film operations. Outside of normal hours, he would assist players with extra shots and drills to help improve their game.
Gamarra graduated from Manhattan in 2019 with a bachelor’s in journalism and a minor in management. During his time in Riverdale, he was the manager and a practice player with the men’s basketball team. For the Jaspers, he coordinated film and other tasks while assisting the coaches with daily needs.
On the sideline, Gamarra has been coaching at the Hoop Academy in New York since 2019. There he teaches kids the basics of basketball and helps develop their game through drills and exercises. He works with various youth age groups, constantly providing a supportive and energetic environment.
A native of Washington Heights, N.Y., he currently resides in the Bronx.
