Sam Lane completed her second season with the Manhattanville women’s basketball team in 2018-19, her first season as the top assistant coach.
In her first season as the top assistant in 2018-19, Lane helped guide a pair of All-Conference selections while the team as a whole qualified for the MAC Freedom Tournament for the first time since 2015-16. The Commack, N.Y., native's first year with the team in 2017-18 resulted in an 18-7 record for the Valiants, the program's best record in more than 35 years.
Lane is a 2017 graduate of Division III Drew University, where she played two seasons with the Rangers following two years on scholarship at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College. In her first game with the Rangers, she made eight three-point field goals, tied for second-most in a single game in program history. She ranked second on the team by averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game as a senior captain, ranking second in the Landmark Conference in minutes per game and ninth in points per game.
In two years with the Rangers, the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient averaged 11.5 points (11th in Drew program history) and 4.8 boards per game as a two-year starter.
In addition to four years on the court, Lane has served as an assistant coach with the Commack High School varsity girls’ basketball team and also instructed at multiple basketball camps in the area as an undergraduate.
Lane is currently pursuing her master's degree in sport business management at Manhattanville.
