After working with the teams in a volunteer coaching capacity a year prior, Matthew Speight was hired as the leading assistant coach for Manhattanville's cross country and track & field programs in August 2026.
Speight competed collegiately at the Division I and Division II level, attending the University of Hartford while the Hawks were still a DI member institution. From 2020 to 2023, Speight ran both cross country and track for Hartford, balancing his studies with his athletics as he was able to complete his undergraduate course work in three years. From there, Speight attended Southern Connecticut State for his graduate degree, running two more seasons for the DII Owls.Â
Speight worked with the Valiants during the 2025-26 academic year in a volunteer role, assisting head coach Michael Cameron in developing the program's distance runners. Manhattanville cross country made its first appearance at the NCAA Regionals since 2018 in that season, while on the track side, the Valiants medaled in a pair of distance events at the 2026 Skyline Conference Championship meet.
A native of Central Village, Conn., Speight holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Hartford and a master's in exercise science from Southern Connecticut State.Â
