Doug Smith completed his third full season as Manhattanville's head men's and women's golf coach in the 2023-24 school year after taking helm of the program at the start of the spring 2021 season.

Wrapping up the fall season, the men's team finished sixth at the Skyline Conference Championships under Smith. He would also work with newcomer Lindsay Reyes on the women's side, witht he senior making her collegiate golf debut in the spring at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship.

The men's team took second place at the Skyline Conference Championships for a second-straight year under Smith in 2022, while the team competed at 11 total events over the course of the academic year. Ryan Moran and Corey Popowcer finished the fall season as All-Conference selections, with the senior Moran making the First Team after finishing fourth overall at the Skyline Championships. Popowcer, meanwhile, made the Second Team after placing seventh and was selected as the conference's Co-Rookie of the Year. In the spring, the Valiants would take first place at the six-team Old Westbury Invitational. For the women's team, Smith worked with Meg Stacy who represented Manhattanville at three golf outings over the course of the season.

After coaching the men's team to a third-place finish at the Skyline Conference Championship in the Spring 2021 season, Smith improved the team's performance with a return to a normal schedule following the COVID-shortened campaign. The Valiants' men's golf team would place second at the Skyline Conference Championships in October 2022, with two players--Reid Robertson and Ryan Moran--being named to the All-Conference First Team with their top-five finishes in the tournament. Smith also hosted the Manhattanville Fall 2021 Invitational in September, marking the first home golf event for the Valiants since 2016. On the women's side, Sydney Bardsley competed at every event on the season and placed fifth in the season-ending Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship to earn All-Conference First Team recognition.

Smith came to Manhattanville with a wealth of knowledge as both a coach and a golf architect. Most recently, he previously spent time as the head coach of the Riverdale Country School boys varsity golf team and at T.G.A. Premier Golf as a head coach at the youth level. Along with his coaching experience Smith brings years of experience as both a rules official for the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) and as a golf course architect. Smith has been a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) since 2009.

Currently, Smith is a partner with Golf Design Unlimited. A company that provides design services for many golf course properties. From 1990-2017, he was a partner with Stephen Kay • Doug Smith Golf Course Design which was responsible for hundreds of renovations and new courses.
