Jennifer MacAskill (M.S. 20) completed her fifth season as head women's ice hockey coach at Manhattanville in 2025. MacAskill previously served as the program's top assistant coach from 2018 to 2020.
In the wake of conference restructuring, MacAskill led the Valiants through a new-look UCHC in 2024-25. Going through the gauntlet with 14 games against ranked foes, Manhattanville went 7-17-2 overall and finished 5-7-0 in conference play. The Valiants extended their streak of UCHC semifinals appearances to seven-straight seasons, the last five of which featured MacAskill at the helm. Rookie goaltender Olivia Cimorelli made an immediate impact on the conference upon her arrival to the league, becoming the first UCHC All-Rookie Team selection under MacAskill.
In the 2023-24 season, MacAskill coached Manhattanville to her third-straight double-digit win season, with the Valiants going 13-12-2 on the year. The team finished 12-6-2 in the UCHC to earn the No. 3 seed and made a sixth-straight trip to the Conference Tournament Semifinals with a 4.0 quarterfinal victory over sixth-seeded Alvernia. Closing out her collegiate career, Gabrielle Cox put forth one of the best seasons in program history as the graduate forward developed into a CCM Hockey/AHCA All-American selection under MacAskill's tutelage, the 14th All-American in program history and the first under MacAskill's coaching tenure. Cox was also named a Division III Player of the Year finalist, the UCHC Player of the Year and an All-Conference First Team selection. She was joined by co-captain Grace Genest with conference recognition, with Genest being tabbed as the second UCHC Defensive Player of the Year to be coached by MacAskill.
MacAskill led the Valiants to a 15-11-1 record in the 2022-23 campaign, making the UCHC Tournament for the third time in as many seasons with her at the helm. The Valiants would claim the No. 3 seed for the postseason and would also make it a third straight year under MacAskill with a postseason win as Manhattanville defeated No. 6 Arcadia 3-2 in overtime. Cox developed into one of the top scorers in all of Division III under MacAskill, as the senior was the NCAA Statistical Champion in goals per game with 1.15. She would also lead all of Division III in shorthanded goals, the second year in a row the Valiants had a player lead the nation in shorties. Cox became the first UCHC First Team selection under MacAskill, while Holly Meredith and Franny Gerardi were named conference Honorable Mentions.
In her first non-Covid shortened season as head coach in 2021-22, MacAskill led the Valiants to a 17-9-1 season as Manhattanville made the UCHC Tournament finals for the second time in three seasons. The Valiants earned the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament, defeating Arcadia at home in the quarterfinals before upending No. 2 Utica on the road in a 3-2 overtime semifinals clash. The Valiants advanced to the championship game against top-seeded Nazareth, ultimately falling to the Golden Flyers. The great season included a new program record and a NCAA statistical champion. Goaltender Franny Gerardi made 611 saves in her second season on the ice for the Valiants, shattering the previous record of 522. On a national scale, Morgan Miller scored five shorthanded goals in the season, tied for the national lead in all of Division III. Miller would be selected as the UCHC Defensive Player of the Year, and would be one of four Valiants alongside Gerardi, Gabbie Cox and Tia Martignetti to be named a UCHC All-Conference Honorable Mention.
MacAskill's first season as head coach was abbreviated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Valiants would play nine games, going 4-5-0 on the year. Ending the regular season with three straight wins, Manhattanville was able to pick up a 4-1 road victory at second-seeded Stevenson in the quarterfinals of the UCHC Tournament to nab MacAskill's first postseason victory as head coach. Miller earned Second Team All-Conference recognition, with Martignetti being selected as an Honorable Mention.
Over her two seasons as an assistant, MacAskill has assisted the program’s all-time wins leader and now-men’s head coach David Turco to a multitude of success. With her help, the Valiants qualified for the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament both seasons, as the squad combined for a 34-16-5 overall record, including a 25-7-2 mark in UCHC play.
In 2019-20, MacAskill helped guide the squad to the UCHC South Division regular-season championship as well as a runner-up finish in the conference tournament title game. In 2018-19, the Valiants advanced to the UCHC semifinals and also claimed the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) regular-season crown. Individually as a Manhattanville assistant, she helped the rest of the coaching staff guide their players to a total of 15 all-conference selections as well as two conference offensive/defensive players of the year.
Prior to her arrival at Manhattanville, MacAskill played four years of Division I women’s hockey at Mercyhurst University from 2014-18, serving as team captain in her senior season. She helped the Lakers to two College Hockey America (CHA) conference championships as well as two NCAA Division I Women’s Ice Hockey Championship Tournament appearances during her sophomore and senior seasons.
While preparing for her first season as an assistant with the Valiants, MacAskill was drafted in Aug. 2018 by the Worcester Blades of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) in the sixth round, eventually playing in seven games. During her juniors’ career, MacAskill played for the Oakville Jr. Hornets of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), where was served as team captain in 2013-14 and finished with 27 points over 33 games.
A native of Valley, Nova Scotia, MacAskill earned her bachelor’s in public health and a minor in psychology from Mercyhurst in 2018. She also earned a master’s degree in sports business management at Manhattanville in 2020.
