John Ewen was appointed as the director of sports information at Manhattanville College in August 2021.
At Manhattanville, Ewen serves as the primary liaison and contact for all 23 varsity and three junior varsity Valiant athletic teams. Since arriving to campus ahead of the Fall 2021 semester, he has served as the lead statistician for a majority of Manhattanville's home events while handling gameday operations, broadcast production, public address, social media and play-by-play. In 2023, he oversaw the redesign of www.govaliants.com with SIDEARM Sports, helping give the online home of Manhattanville Athletics a modernized, more user-friendly facelift. For his work with the department, Ewen was named to the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class of 2023 and was a nominee alongside Assistant Directors of Athletic Communications Bryce Lester and Haley Zemek for the D3SIDA 2023-24 Communicators of the Year award.Â
Since arriving at Manhattanville, Ewen has accompanied men's tennis, women's volleyball and softball to their respective NCAA Tournament appearances.
In addition to serving as the primary public address voice of the Valiants, Ewen has helped orchestrate the Manhattanville Valiant Athletic Awards since joining the department. After coordinating the filming, scheduling and editing of a virtual ceremony in 2022, Ewen served as the emcee for the 2023 awards banquet, the first in-person ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ewen came to Manhattanvile with a plethora of experience in communications with involvement in athletics and higher education. Graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communication from the University of Connecticut, Ewen began his work in collegiate athletics while at Pace University while pursuing a Masters Degree in Media and Communication Arts.
From September of 2017 to May of 2019, Ewen served as an Athletic Communications Assistant with Pace University, writing daily press releases for PaceUAthletics.com for all 14 varsity athletic teams, including game and season previews, game recaps, award recognitions, and national rankings. Ewen also oversaw the designing of graphics and creating of videos for use on social media platforms and broadcast streams. Following his graduation, Ewen transitioned into a role in admissions as the Welcome Center Manager at Pace in November of 2019, overseeing the management and daily operations of the welcome center at the Westchester campus. Ewen was responsible for the training, hiring, and development of a staff of more than 40 tour guides as well as delivering robust information sessions to prospective students and families prior to each tour to introduce university offerings.
In 2017, Ewen served as an account coordinator for Co-Communications in Mount Kisco, New York, where he was in charge of drafting, editing and distribution of press releases to media outlets while tracking and clipping media hits to distribute with clients. Part of Ewen’s duties included creating and researching personalized media lists comprised of media contacts for individualized outreach on a per client basis as well as assisting in social media content creation, research, ad trafficking, photography, and other assorted duties on a per client basis.
Ewen currently resides in Yorktown Heights, New York.
