Tom Albano was officially introduced as the 10th head coach in the history of the Manhattanville University men's lacrosse program in October 2022. He completed his third season as the team's head coach in 2025.
Albano made program history in the 2025 season, leading the Valiants to back-to-back conference championship tournament appearances for the first time ever in program history. On April 19, the team added one more accolade for the history books, scoring a program-record 29 goals in a triumph over Saint Joseph's Long Island in Manhattanville's home finale. After gearing up against a tough non-conference slate, Albano's Valiants went 4-3 in Skyline play for a second-straight year to clinch the No. 4 seed. The Valiants finished 5-12 overall on the season and sent two to the Skyline All-Conference Team as grad students Michael Swift and Sean Larking earned spots on the Second Team.
In his second year coaching the team, Albano had the Valiants in the postseason for the first time since 2018, officially securing the team's third-ever conference tournament appearance with a 24-7 victory over Purchase College on April 23, 2024. The Valiants finished 8-10 overall in the 2024 season with a 4-3 mark in the Skyline Conference to earn the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament. Nick Cornelia capped off his stellar collegiate career in his second year playing for Albano, repeating as a Skyline All-Conference First Team selection and being named the university's Male Athlete of the Year.
In his inaugural season, Albano led the Valiants to a 7-9 finish, their most wins since 2019. He wasted little time getting into the win column, earning a 21-8 victory over Anna Maria in the season-opener on February 19, 2023. Albano would collect his first conference victory against Saint Joseph's Long Island on April 19 following a 19-7 victory over the Golden Eagles. The Valiants ended the season hot, winning their last two games by a combined score of 37-16, but ultimately fell just short of a playoff berth. There was still plenty of reason to celebrate for Albano and the Valiants, however, as Cornelia became just the third player in program history to be tabbed Conference Player of the Year. The grad student was also selected to the Skyline First Team alongside Larkin.
Albano made his return to Manhattanville after he was last in Purchase from 2009 to 2011 when he served as the assistant coach for the men's lacrosse team. During his first stint with the Valiants, Albano oversaw recruiting efforts as well as developing defensive strategy and coaching the team's goalkeepers. Additionally, Albano was tasked with monitoring team academics, scheduling and fundraising efforts. The Valiants won eight games while Albano was with the team.
Albano jumped right into head coaching following the completion of his graduate school education from Manhattanville. From September 2011 until 2022, Albano served as the head coach of the Ramapo High School men's lacrosse team where he was responsible of all three levels of the program of freshmen, junior varsity and varsity. His work with Ramapo High earned him a number of recognitions over his tenure, starting with being named Bergen County and Gil-Gibbs Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. One year later, he would be named All North Jersey and all-Suburban Coach of the Year. In 2017, he would lead Ramapo to the Group II State Championship while being selected USILA NJ Coach of the Year. His team would then hoist the Bergen County Championship in 2018, earning him his second Bergen County Coach of the Year honor.
In addition to coaching Ramapo High, Albano worked as a business education teacher at Fair Lawn High School starting in 2012.
Prior to his first position at Manhattanville, Albano was able to gain some exposure to Major League Lacrosse, serving as the assistant to the general manager of the New Jersey Pride in 2008. In this role, Albano assisted the team general manger in day-to-day operations, including planning transportation, game-day operations, and player transactions.
Albano graduated from Springfield College in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in sports management and a minor in business. He would earn his Masters of Science in sports business management from Manhattanville in 2011.
