WORCESTER, Mass. –
Senior captain Shannon Coffey (Malden, Mass./North American Hockey Academy) (Malden, Mass.) scored a game-winning power-play goal with 1:50 remaining in the third period as the #8 Manhattanville women's hockey team defeated The College of the Holy Cross, 2-1, in an ECAC East Conference game on Friday evening at the Hart Center.

Coffey along with sophomore Mary Rose Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Stars (MFYHL)) (Ridgefield, Conn.) were responsible for both Valiant goals, as the team came back from a 1-0 deficit after the first period. Coffey finished with a pair of points on the night after assisting on the Morrison goal. The Valiants scored both of their goals on the man advantage and outshot the opposition 29-18.

Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead at the 3:50 mark of the first period as Nicola Garat scored from just inside the blueline on a breakout.  The Crusaders' only tally of the night came on their first of four man-advantages on the night, but the Valiant penalty kill shut Holy Cross' power play down for the rest of the night after that.

Manhattanville, meanwhile, tied the contest midway into the second stanza with a power-play goal of its own, as Coffey and junior assistant captain Hannah Muskego (Neilburg, Saskatchewan/PWM Steelers (AMMFHL)) (Neilburg, Sask.) found the Morrison for her fifth of the year to tie classmate Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) (Victoria, B.C.) for the team lead in goals.  The Valiants held a 20-12 shooting advantage after two periods and were beginning to take control of the play against the Crusaders.

A penalty taken in the third period by Holy Cross gave Manhattanville a chance to take the lead, and the Valiants capitalized with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. In the offensive zone, the Valiants cycled the puck around before Little and junior Jackie Solomito (Sea Cliff, N.Y./Niagara University (CHA)) (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) found Coffey for the game winner.

Holy Cross emptied their net immediately after the Coffey score, but the Valiant defense held the Crusaders at bay en route to the team's fifth victory of the season.

Manhattanville netminder Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) (Saint-Hubert, Que.) made 17 saves for her fourth win of the year, while Carly Dominick-Sobol made 27 saves in the loss for Holy Cross.

Manhattanville (5-1, 4-0 ECAC East) will travel to Salve Regina for a 3 p.m. game tomorrow. Holy Cross (4-2, 3-1 ECAC East) will host Nichols tomorrow at 1 p.m.
