ASTON, Pa. – The Manhattanville women's hockey team let a two-goal lead slip away in the second half of the contest and tied Neumann University 2-2 (OT) on Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Ice Works.
Manhattanville dominated the first half of the contest, scoring both goals and out-shooting the Knights 28-14 after two periods of play. The Valiants scored a minute and seven seconds into the period as sophomore Kelly Keane (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her first of the season with an unassisted goal to give the visiting Valiants a 1-0 edge. The Valiants added their second goal of the contest at the 12:55 mark of the second period as senior Holly Nonis (Brampton, Ont.) put in a rebound off an original shot by classmate Shannon Coffey (Malden, Mass.). The secondary assist was credited to senior Jess Scioli (North Reading, Mass.).
The Knights cut the deficit in half on a pass from Jennie Greenlee to Nicole Alexopoulos with 4:31 left in the second period. Neumann tied the contest in the third period with 9:20 remaining as Nikki Blazenko sent a shot past Manhattanville sophomore netminder Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Que.). Neumann finished the second half of the contest and through overtime with a 10-8 advantage in shots, but got outshot in the contest 36-24.
Cote made 22 saves, with nine coming in the first period, while Shannon Donnelly of Neumann made 34 saves, with a combined 26 saves after the first two periods.
Manhattanville (7-3-1, 6-1 ECAC East) will get some much needed rest and will return to the ice in 2011 when they hit the road for an 8:10 p.m. start at ECAC East member Nichols College on January 5. Neumann (4-4-1, 4-4 ECAC West) will take on Nichols College on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
