Women's Basketball Falls at Misericordia, 82-67

, Pa. – Christine Marks scored a game-high 30 points as Misericordia University led the whole contest and defeated the Manhattanville women's basketball team 82-67 in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

 

Three Valiants scored in double figures, led by senior Carey Hickey (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) with 13 points and seven assists. Junior Taylor Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) finished with 11 points and six rebounds and freshman Beranda Felder (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) had 10 points and seven boards. Sophomore guard Janetta Arnold (Windsor, Conn./Suffield Academy) returned after missing the last two games and scored nine points, while junior forward Kelli Hyjek (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) had eight points.

 

The Cougars started the contest on a 12-0 run, as the Valiants had a hard time stopping Marks, as the center scored 10 of the first 12 inside the paint. The Valiants ended their scoring drought at 15:18, as Hyjek hit a bucket from outside the paint. The Cougars kept their lead in double figures for the entire half, but the Valiants cut their deficit to as low as 10 with 5:32 on a layup by Hyjek. The Valiants finished the half on a 7-1 run to cut deficit at 36-25 heading into the locker room.

 

The Valiants struggled on the floor shooting 26 percent from the field and made just one shot from the outside. The Cougars shot 59 percent from the field, as they scored 22 points in the paint.

 

In the second half, the Valiants made an effort and cut the deficit at seven (55-48) on a layup by Felder, but the Cougars made the best of their 50 percent shooting in the final stanza.

 

For Misericordia, Jesse Robinson finished with 19 points, followed by Tyann McDaniel with 16 points and Hannah Seely with 11 points.

 

Manhattanville (9-6, 3-2 Freedom) will return home to take on Delaware Valley on Wednesday evening in a Freedom Conference matchup beginning at 6 p.m. Fans that can't make it to the game can listen watch the game live on GoValiants.TV. Misericordia (8-6, 4-1 Freedom) will take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Monday evening at 7 p.m.
