Volleyball Drops Two on Day One of Kean Invitational

Sophomore Alyssa Casino led all players in digs in both matches on Friday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UNION, N.J. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on day one of the Kean Invitational, held at Harwood Arena on Friday night. The Valiants fell to NYU-Poly by a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-20) score to start the night, then fell by the same 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) score to the host Cougars later in the evening.
 
Freshman Patricia Alfonso (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertoriqueno de Ninas) led Manhattanville offensively with 15 kills for the night and also added 17 digs and seven service aces. Junior Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) followed close behind with 13 kills and 12 digs, and sophomore Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) registered 31 digs.
 
With her 13 kills, Camaj increased her season kills total to 226, moving her into seventh place on the program's single-season list as the most kills by a Valiant since Rebecca Magnuson '02 put down a program record 258 kills in 2001.
 
In the first match of the day, Corey Loupee led all players with 16 kills as the Lady Jays defeated the Valiants in three sets. NYU-Poly posted 36 kills and hit .223 as a team in the win, while Manhattanville had 21 kills and hit just .061 in the loss.
 
Loupee had her 16 kills and also added 13 digs for her team's only double-double, and was followed by Megan Moran with eight kills and seven digs. Stephanie Serrano added a team-best 15 digs.
 
Alfonso had nine kills and seven digs to pace Manhattanville, followed by Camaj with seven kills and 10 digs. Casino also led all players with 18 digs in a losing effort.
 
In the second match of the night, Kean used 14 service aces and six blocks to pull away with a straight-set win.
 
Kaitlyn Hansen led the varied Cougar attack with seven kills, while Camaj and Alfonso both had six kills to lead the Valiants. Casino also led all players in digs for the second straight match with 13.
 
Manhattanville (8-18) will return to Union tomorrow for day two of the Kean Invitational, as the Valiants take on Alvernia at noon and Muhlenberg at 2 p.m.
