Box Score 2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Taking on a pair of Commonwealth Conference opponents did not bring any luck to the Manhattanville women's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants fell to Albright, 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-19), and host Elizabethtown, 3-1 (25-8, 21-25, 25-12, 25-9), at the Middle Atlantic Conference Crossover event at ETown's Thompson Gymnasium.
The Valiants struggled to get going offensively in the first match of the day against the Lions, falling in straight sets.
Junior
Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) tied for the match high with nine kills to lead the Valiants, while sophomore
Veronica Ferreiras (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Malverne) had the team's only double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs.
For Albright, Christa Mantz tied Camaj with a match-leading nine kills, followed close behind by Alyssa Hoogendoorn with eight kills and Marisa Bartone with seven. Morgan Heath had a double-double for Albright with a match-best 16 assists and 13 digs, while Casey McFadden led all players with 15 digs on defense.
In the second match of the day against the host Blue Jays, Manhattanville had one good set and three not-so-good ones in falling by a 3-1 score.
Camaj and freshman
Patricia Alfonso (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertoriqueno de Ninas) tied for the team lead with 10 kills apiece in a losing effort, and the pair added 10 digs and 16 digs, respectively, to pick up the double-doubles. Ferreiras barely missed her second straight double-double with 21 assists and nine digs, while sophomore
Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) chipped in a team-best 17 digs.
Lindsay Palm was superb for ETown in the win, putting down 20 balls and committing only two errors to go with five blocks. Juliana Mowen added 10 kills, Mary Clyne had 35 assists and 10 digs, and Carolyn Lukiewski tied for the match lead with 17 digs as well for Elizabethtown.
Manhattanville was flawless in earning the second-set win, as the visitors had 10 kills and did not commit an error in 31 attacks. Camaj and Alfonso had four kills each while Casino and freshman
Jillian Chittenden (Rye, N.Y./Rye) had one each in the frame, as the Valiants hit .323 as a team. Unfortunately the other three sets did not go as smoothly for the Valiants, recording no more than six kills in any frame.
Manhattanville (8-15) will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday, as the Valiants host King's (Pa.) in a key Freedom Conference matchup at Kennedy Gym beginning at 7 p.m. The live GoValiants.TV broadcast will begin at approximately 6:55 p.m.
