Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – After an easy victory in their only game of the week, the Manhattanville men's hockey team earned its way into the top 10 of the latest D3hockey.com Division III National Poll for the first time, earning the ninth position in the latest poll released on Monday afternoon.
The Valiants, who originally entered the poll two weeks ago at #13 before moving up to #11 last week, moved up two spots for the second straight week to the #9 slot, just behind Castleton State and just ahead of fellow ECAC West Conference school Utica.
Manhattanville completed its non-conference schedule with an impressive 9-3 victory over Morrisville State on Saturday night, as junior Scott Hudson (St. Albert, Alta./Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL)) recorded his first career hat trick and also added an assist for a four-point night. Senior Marcus von Sydow (Stockholm, Sweden/Djugarden J20 (SWE)) and junior Brendan Turner (Tisdale, Sask./Lloydminster Bobcats (AJHL)) both had three-point nights as well, as 12 different skaters had at least one point.
In goal, senior Pierre-Olivier Lemieux (Rimouski, Que./Neepawa Natives (MJHL)) made 30 saves to become the school's all-time single-season saves leader with 631 stops, surpassing the previous record of 617 set by Andrew Gallant '07 during his consensus National Player of the Year campaign in 2006-07.
Manhattanville, which also continues to receive votes in the USCHO.com Division III poll, will bring a 13-6-3 (6-4-0 ECAC West) record into the final weekend of the regular season, when the Valiants travel to Geneva for two games with ECAC West foe Hobart. The team has clinched a top-two seed in the ECAC West Tournament and still could earn the top seed with two wins and two Elmira losses. Friday's game will be audio streamed live via WMVLRadio.com and WMVL 88.1 FM beginning at 6:45 p.m.
