Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth scored five goals in less than nine minutes during the second period to earn its first ECAC West Conference victory with a 6-4 win over the #11/13 Manhattanville men's hockey team on Friday night at the Sports Centre at MCC.
Nazareth (6-11-1, 1-7-0 ECAC West) was led by Julius Tamasy, who scored two goals and an assist for three points, as well as Packy Jones (one goal, two assists) and Zach Lewis (three assists), who both reached the three-point plateau as well. Tom Seravalli, Scott Dawson and Jordan Ciccarello also scored for the Golden Flyers.
Senior assistant captain
Scott Hudson (St. Albert, Alta./Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL)) had a pair of goals to lead Manhattanville (11-6-1, 4-3-1 ECAC West). Junior
Luc Van Natter (Fort Erie, Ont./Aurora Tigers (OPJHL)) scored and sophomore
Joel Rosenberg (Sigtuna, Sweden/Boston Bulldogs (AtlJHL)) added his first collegiate tally for the Valiants, while freshman
Matt Coleman (Brentwood, N.Y./Springfield Pics (EJHL)) had two helpers as well.
There was only one goal scored in the opening frame and it came off the stick of Hudson, who found the net at the 13:06 mark off passes from Coleman and sophomore
Anton Racklin (Gothenburg, Sweden/Fairbanks Ice Dogs (NAHL)). The visitors went into the first intermission with a 16-10 edge in shots in addition to their one-goal lead.
Despite a 14-10 shot advantage in the middle period, the frame belonged entirely to Nazareth as the Golden Flyers scored five times to blow open the game. Jones got the scoring started 2:38 into the frame, followed less than three minutes later by a power-play goal from Tom Seravalli.
sThe goals kept coming with three Nazareth tallies in just over three minutes, concluded by a Ciccarello score at 11:00 that made it a 5-1 Naz lead.
Van Natter gave Manhattanville a little momentum back late in the frame with his seventh goal of the year unassisted at 16:40, making it a 5-2 game entering the third.
However, the Valiant momentum was killed on the first shift of the third period, as Tamasy scored his second of the night 53 seconds into the frame to give the home team its four-goal lead back. Hudson and Rosenberg scored 14 seconds apart later in the frame, but that was all the Valiant offense could muster.
Manhattanville finished the night with a 37-26 edge in shots. The Valiants were unsuccessful on their two man-up chances, while the Golden Flyers went 1 for 5 with the man advantage.
Sophomore goalie
Brian Fleming (Saint John, N.B./Northern Cyclones (AJHL)) got the start and had a rough evening, allowing four goals on 17 shots in 30:40 of action. Classmate
Alex Scola (Exeter, N.H./Woodstock Slammers (MJHL)) came on in relief and ceded two goals in nine shots, suffering the loss when the Valiants scored their two late tallies. Nazareth's Joe Gladnick picked up the win by making 33 saves on 37 shots.
Manhattanville will have to rebound quickly, as the Valiants finally complete their eight-game road trip at #8/4 Utica tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
