Caiazzo Leads Women’s Basketball Past Hunter With Double-Double

Caiazzo's double-double leads Manhattanville to its first win.
Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) tallied 19 points and 20 rebounds to help the Manhattanville women's basketball team get their first win of the season on Monday night, defeating Hunter by a 64-44 score in non-conference action at Kennedy Gym.

Junior guard Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) returned to the Valiants lineup after sitting out the first four games with an injury and also made an impact, contributing 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in 18 minutes off the bench.
 
The Valiants were quick to pull away right after the tip-off as they went on an 11-0 run in the opening six minutes. Manhattanville dominated the Hawks up and down the floor in the first half, building up a lead as big as 22 points with 5:41 left in the half on a pair of free throws by sophomore Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career). The home team went into halftime with a 39-18 lead after hitting 14 of 32 shots while keeping Hunter to 5 of 20 shooting.

After the first half, the closest the Hawks came to Manhattanville was a 14-point deficit with 12:10 remaining in the contest. Although Hunter outscored the Valiants 26-25 in the second half, Manhattanville's impressive first half was the difference as the Valiants cruised to the win.
 
Manhattanville shot 39.0 percent (23 of 59) from the floor for the night, while Hunter shot 30.0 percent (15 of 50) from the field.
 
The Valiants improve to 1-4 on the season and play next against Eastern in their first Freedom Conference game of the season on Wednesday inside Kennedy Gym at 6:00 p.m. Live stats and video for the game can be found on GoValiants.com.
