Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) scored a career-high 29 points to go with 16 rebounds on Saturday afternoon as the Manhattanville women's basketball team pounced all over the Panthers, 81-60.
Three other Valiants joined Caiazzo in double-figures to help solidify the blowout victory for Manhattanville. Freshman
Candice Scott-Mason (Trenton, N.J./Ewing) finished with 14 points while junior
Shayna Robinson (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and sophomore
Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) finished with 10 points each.
Manhattanville dominated the game offensively as the Valiants shot a collective 59.1 percent (39-66) mark from the floor.
Neither team could gain the definitive edge in the first eight minutes of play, as the game was played neck and neck with four lead changes. After Caiazzo knocked down a layup to tie the game up at 17 with 12:09 remaining, the Valiants started to heat up.
The Caiazzo layup at 12:09 started something special for Manhattanville. The Valiants went on a 20-0 run, taking a 35-17 lead with 5:11 to go in the first half.
Manhattanville dominated the first half both offensively and defensively, leading the Valiants to a 42-22 lead at halftime.
The second half consisted of Old Westbury hoping for a comeback but the hot-handed Valiants made that difficult. Manhattanville shot a remarkable 67.9 percent (19-28) from the floor, helping seal the victory.
The closest the Panthers came to the Valiants in the second half was with 3:25 left as Old Westbury trailed by 15, 73-58. Caiazzo and the Valiants overwhelmed the Panthers all afternoon to improve their overall record to 2-8.
