Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The #10 Manhattanville women's hockey team suffered a loss to the #9/7 ranked Amherst College Jeffs on Wednesday evening by a score of 3-0. Amherst was able to snap the Valiants three-game winning streak thanks to junior forward Madeline Tank, who tallied two goals including the game-winner.
The Valiants made the drive up to Amherst with the intention of moving up in the national rankings but were unable to put the puck past Amherst's senior goaltender Kerri Stuart who, although only facing 13 shots, was able to turn all of them away to earn the shutout victory.
At the 8:46 mark of the first period, Amherst freshman defenseman Caitlyn Ryan put a shot on net that was saved by junior goaltender
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter); however, Shaughnessy was unable to control the rebound as Tank capitalized and put it past the netminder for a 1-0 Lord Jeffs lead.
Manhattanville was never able to recover. The Jeffs scored two more goals in the second period and stymied the very productive Valiant offense to a meager 13 shots on the game.
The loss drops the Valiants to 4-3-1 on the season. The Valiants will return to Terry Conners Rink on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. to host Nichols College (1-5-0) in the first game of a home-and-home ECAC East Conference weekend series with the Bison.
