Women's Basketball Unable to Complete Comeback in 72-58 Loss

Freshman Ashley Franklin tied a career-high with eight points on Tuesday evening.
Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Manhattanville women's basketball team dropped its second matchup of the season against Delaware Valley on Tuesday evening by the score of 72-58 from the James Work Gymnasium. The loss gives Manhattanville a series split with the Aggies for the second straight season.
 
In the loss, sophomore Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) recorded her 19th double-double of the season, as she continues to stay amongst the national leaders in the statistic. Also in the victory senior Taylor Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) had 19 points, while freshman Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) tied a career-high with eight points.
 
Manhattanville started off ice cold going 0-for on its first 10 shots from the field, and in the process fell behind 10-0. Franklin came off the bench and put the first points on the board for the Valiants with a layup with 15:29 to go in the first half. The basket sparked an 8-2 rally and pulled Manhattanville back within four.
 
Delaware Valley's lead remained at four points as both teams continued to exchange baskets through the latter stages of the first half, until 5:25 left in the period when Caiazzo sank a jumper and the ensuing and-one free throw to pull the Valiants back within one at 19-18.
 
Over a minute later Manhattanville came all the way back from their 10-point deficit, as it was once again Caiazzo to drain another jump shot with 4:23 to go in the half. Classmate Shayna Robinson (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added to the lead with a layup off the glass to put the Valiants up by three.
 
Shannon Barlow of Delaware Valley put the Aggies up 23-22 with 49 seconds to go, but it was once again Caiazzo to tie the game with two seconds left with a free throw to tie the game and send it to the locker room tied at 23 apiece.
 
To start the second half Delaware Valley jumped out on a quick 9-2 run, but Caiazzo put a layup in and Wilson sank a three-pointer to pull the Valiants back within two with 16:45 left in the second half. Another 8-2 run by Delaware Valley helped the Aggies open up an eight-point lead, which they held through the remainder of the contest.
 
Delaware Valley made it an 11-point game with a layup with 4:14 remaining in regulation, but Wilson answered with another three pointer to pull the Valiants within single-digits. Eireann Anastasi drained her own three-pointer 27 seconds later and the Aggies never had their lead fall below 10 points through the remainder of the contest to hang on for the 72-58 victory.
 
The Valiants shot 33% from the floor, while the Aggies shot 40% from the field. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with both sides shooting identical 4-of-20 from three-point land.
 
Manhattanville (10-13, 3-10 Freedom) will wrap-up the season with its final game of the year on the road against Misericordia with tip-off set for 1 p.m. Delaware Valley (10-14, 4-9 Freedom) will also finish off its season on the road against FDU-Florham also at 1 p.m.
