Mickey Lang '11 Inks Deal with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets

Former Valiant Mickey Lang '11 was one of the top scorers in the CHL last season.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Former Valiant All-American Mickey Lang '11 is continuing his ascent up the professional ranks this summer, as the speedy scorer signed a deal with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL for the 2013-14 season, the Komets announced recently.

Lang had a superb second pro season with the Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League (CHL) in 2012-13, ranking second in the CHL with 41 goals – including leading the league in power-play goals (13), shorthanded tallies (six) and game-winning strikes (11). He added 42 assists for 83 points (fourth in the CHL) in 64 regular-season games. As a result, he was picked for the CHL All-Star Team and also was selected to the All-CHL team. The New Jersey native also made his AHL debut last season, skating with the Rockford IceHogs. In 130 games in two years with Quad City, Lang averaged almost one point per game, potting 64 goals with 63 assists.

One of only three first-team AHCA All-Americans in program history, Lang scored 47 goals with 46 assists for 93 points in four years wearing a Valiant uniform. The forward still ranks second on the school's all-time goals list and also graduated seventh in points and 10th in assists at Manhattanville, while his 20 career power-play goals still are a Valiant career record. A two-time All-Conference honoree, Lang was selected to the AHCA All-America first team and named the ECAC West Conference Player of the Year as a junior after scoring a career-high 22 goals and assisting on 16 for 38 points.

Fort Wayne finished the 2012-13 season fourth in the Eastern Conference's North Division with a 33-35-1-3 record. Lang and the Komets are set to begin the 2013-14 season on October 19 against Toledo.
