Box Score 2 MAHWAH, N.J. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team came back to earn a split of two matches on day one of the 2013 Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by Ramapo on Friday night at the Bradley Center. The Valiants swept Bard for the second time this year, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-12), in the nightcap following a tough 3-1 (25-18, 14-25, 25-14, 25-9) loss to Saint Joseph's (L.I.) in the squad's first match of the night.
The familiar trio of seniors
Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) and
Alyssa Taylor (Craik, Sask./Craik) and freshman
Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) were again the leaders of the Valiant attack on Friday, as all three players had at least 15 kills for Manhattanville (6-3). Camaj and Primavera both had 16 kills on the night, while Taylor chipped in 15 in 51 attempts. Freshman
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) also had a team-leading 45 assists over six sets while her 22 digs were second behind only the 29 of junior
Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina).
Playing Bard for the second time this season, Manhattanville made only nine attack errors in 111 attempts as the Valiants swept away the Raptors again. The squad had no more than four errors in any of the three sets, hitting at least .194 in all three stanzas and .198 for the match.
Primavera was the top hitter on either side with a match-best 10 kills, while Camaj added eight kills and 10 digs. Quinabo had the match's only double-double, posting a team-leading 27 assists and 14 digs.
In the first match of the day, Manhattanville kept the errors down but had trouble mustering enough offense in falling to the Eagles in four sets.
Taylor led the Valiants with nine kills, followed close behind by Camaj with eight. Quinabo and junior
Veronica Ferreiras (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Malverne) both reached double figures in assists with 18 and 10, respectively, while Casino led all players with 19 digs.
After dropping a 25-18 first set, Manhattanville had easily its best set in the second frame, putting down 12 kills and committing only two errors to hit .357 as a team in a 25-14 set-two victory. The offense seemed to disappear soon after that, however, as the Valiants managed only 23 points over the final two sets combined.
Manhattanville will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Roadrunner Invitational, as the Valiants take on Centenary (N.J.) at 10 a.m. and host Ramapo at 2 p.m.
