Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Manhattanville women's hockey team had a rough start to the New Year on Saturday, falling to the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College by a final score of 4-1, with the lone goal for the Valiants coming off the stick of junior forward
Michele Meggiolaro (Whippany, N.J./New Jersey Colonials (MAWHA)) late in the third period.
Manhattanville was rusty coming off their long winter vacation and Bowdoin jumped all over them early, scoring just seven minutes into the opening period. Bowdoin senior defenseman Emily Tang was able to collect a pass from Ariana Borque and fire it past Manhattanville's junior goaltender
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter).
With a 1-0 score entering the second period Bowdoin looked to put some distance between themselves and the Valiants and did so with goals coming off the sticks of Maddy Hall and Chelsea MacNeil at the 10:43 and 17:04 marks respectively. The Polar Bears added a fourth goal just over halfway through the third period to put the game completely out of reach.
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) finished the game with 17 saves on 21 shots while Bowdoin's Lan Crofton finished with 22 saves on 23 shots.
The Valiants now have a couple of days off before taking on Stevenson University Tuesday evening in Maryland.
