DOYLESTOWN, Pa.- Junior
Rylee McGuire (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) tallied two goals for the Manhattanville field hockey team against Delaware Valley on Saturday, but the Valiants were unable to take down the Aggies, falling by a final score of 4-3 in Freedom Conference play.
Â
Manhattanville (2-11, 0-3 Freedom) struggled to shut down the offensive pursuit of Delaware Valley (6-8, 1-2 Freedom) forward Taylor Prichett. Prichett connected for three goals against the Valiants despite a solid performance in between the pipes from sophomore
Meghan Hughes (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades).
Â
The Aggies started off the game strong, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of play. After the game's first goal scored by Carlie Baldrus in the seventh minute, Prichett eventually scored her first goal just three minutes later, giving the Aggies a 2-0 lead.
Â
As time continued to tick off the clock in the first half, the Valiants cut their deficit down to one in the 32nd minute when it was McGuire collecting a pass from sophomore
Melissa Stys (Pequannock, N.J./Kent School), burying home her first goal of the game. Headed into halftime, Manhattanville trailed 2-1.
Â
Down by one in the second half, the Valiants eventually tied the game up at two after junior
Morgan Parsons (Bear, Del./William Penn) connected on a penalty stroke in the 45th minute. With the game tied at two, Delaware Valley did not take long to retake its lead. Pritchett scored two consecutive goals just two minutes apart from each other, putting the Aggies up 4-2 in the 55th minute. The Valiants continued to apply pressure on Delaware Valley goalkeeper Emily Adridge, but the clock became an issue as time continued to expire.
Â
McGuire scored her second goal of the game with only 16 seconds left, leaving not enough time for Manhattanville to mount a comeback. The Aggies were able to hold on in the end, beating the Valiants by a final score of 4-3.
Â
In net, Hughes made 13 saves on 25 Delaware Valley shots while Aldridge collected six saves on 11 Manhattanville shots.
