McGuire, Savage and Manhattanville Conquer Colonials, 2-1

Purchase, N.Y.- On a dreary Wednesday night at GoValiants.com Field, the Manhattanville field hockey team persevered through a rainy game against Western Connecticut State, winning by a final score of 2-1.

Graduate student Kirsten Savage (Harrington Park, N.J./Old Tappan) and junior Rylee McGuire (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) each scored in the Manhattanville (3-11) win. For Western Connecticut State (8-6), Lauren Allen scored the lone goal.

The first goal of the game did not come until the 21st minute when it was Savage ripping a shot past Colonials goalkeeper Kristy Trotta. Western Connecticut eventually connected on an equalizer in the 29th minute, as Allen beat sophomore Meghan Hughes (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades) on a scrum in front of the net.

McGuire tallied the go-ahead goal just two minutes after Allen tied the game, giving Manhattanville a 2-1 lead. After the goal from McGuire, both sides were scoreless for the remainder of the night.

Hughes was outstanding in net for the Valiants, collecting eight saves on 19 Western Connecticut shots. For the Colonials, Kristy Trotta registered four saves on nine shots.

Manhattanville will next play on Saturday at noon when they take Freedom Conference opponent King's (Pa.). Both live video and live stats are available via GoValiants.com.
