Men's Soccer Can't Get Past FDU-Florham in Tough 2-1 Loss

MADISON, N.J. – FDU-Florham junior midfielder Chaz Armand needed only two shots to score two goals and give the Devils a 2-1 win over the Manhattanville College men's soccer team in a key Freedom Conference contest on Wednesday night at a rainy Shields Field.

The loss drops Manhattanville (6-10-0, 2-3-0 Freedom) in to a tie for fifth place in the Freedom Conference with just two games remaining on the season. Despite being just one game out of a postseason spot, but will likely need to win both of their final two conference games and also receive some help in order to reach the postseason.

FDU-Florham (5-8-3, 3-2-0 Freedom) quickly established a 1-0 lead when, in the fourth minute, Armand received a cross into the box and sent in past Manhattanville junior goalkeeper Steve Singson (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's). The Valiants outshot the Devils 4-3 but still found themselves trailing by one at halftime.

Manhattanville scored a relatively quick strike in the 57th minute of play when sophomore forward Rob Hammerle (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) crossed a ball into the box which was put away by freshman Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln), evening the score at 1-1. Schaufele now has a three-game point streak after scoring his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The game was tied for just over two minutes before Armand put home his second goal of the game, heading in a throw in from sophomore Andrew Ruane. Armand's goal in the 60th minute was all the Devils needed to hold on to a victory.

Manhattanville will travel to Wilkes University this Saturday for a must-win match against the Colonels beginning at 4 p.m.
