ASTON, Pa. – After taking a 2-0 lead in the early in the second period, the Valiants had to settle for a 2-2 tie following two unanswered goals by the Knights.
Junior
Kyra Herbert (Plainfield, N.H./Lebanon) put the Valiants on the board first, scoring her third goal of the season with just 1:41 remaining in the first period. Senior captain
Rachael Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn./Sound Shore Warriors (MAWHL)) picked up her first of two assists on the day, while freshman
Monika Molnar (Budapest, Hungary/Vasas HC) was credited with her second assist of the season.
Just over four minutes into the second period senior
Alla Traun (Edina, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds (JWHL)) buried her second goal of the season after a nice string of passing from Morrison and fellow senior
Sydney Asselstine (Hartington, Ontario/Nepean Wildcats (PWHL)). Traun also had a game-high 21 faceoff wins on the night.
The Valiants lead was quickly cut in half when Shanelle Doucette put home her third goal of the season, setup by freshman Bek Lucas, just over three minutes later. The two players would connect again in the third period. This time it was Doucette who would set up Lucas for her fourth goal of the season with 12:40 remaining in the third period.
The two teams would trade opportunities the rest of the way but neither side was able to deliver the knockout punch.
ECAC East Goaltender of the Week
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) was solid in goal for the Valiants, turning away 25 of the 27 shots she faced, including six in the overtime period. The Valiants remain undefeated in their six contests with Neumann, with a 4-0-2 record all-time.
The Valiants now have 10 days off before travelling to Massachusetts to take on an undefeated Amherst squad that sits atop the NESCAC standings.
