Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Sophomore
Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) nearly matched the entire Bard College team with 11 kills as the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team took out the host Raptors by a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-15) score in non-conference action at the Stevenson Athletic Center on Wednesday night.
Primavera led Manhattanville (5-2) with her fifth straight double-digit kill outing to start her season, registering a match-high 11 on .368 hitting. The sophomore had as many kills (nine) as the Raptor team through two sets, with her 11 overall coming just a few short of Bard's 15 total kills.
Multiple Valiants had excellent hitting percentages as well on the night, with freshmen
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) both hitting .444 with five kills on nine attempts, and sophomore
Sam Miano (Bronx, N.Y./Maria Regina) registering four kills on six attempts for a .500 clip.
Manhattanville hit a match-best .242 with 14 kills and six errors on 33 attempts in the opening set, easily taking an early one-set lead. Sophomore
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) had 10 of her match-best 26 assists in the opening frame, while Primavera added five kills, five digs and two aces.
The Valiants were rolling through the second set, up 19-11, before Bard stormed back with a 10-2 run that evened the score at 21. But the visitors rebounded just in time, taking the final four points of the frame to grab a two-set lead. Primavera and Dattoma led the team with four kills each in the middle stanza, with Primavera hitting .800 by putting down four of her five attempts.
The Raptors took a lead early in the third set as well, opening up a four-point edge at 10-6 after a kill by Philippine Alba. However, Manhattanville rattled off eight of the next nine points – the last coming on an ace from senior
Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) – to take a 14-11 lead that the team would never relinquish. Seven different Valiants contributed to the team's nine kills in the final set, helping the match close on an 11-2 run.
The Valiants will travel south to Allegheny this weekend for the two-day Allegheny Gator Invitational, beginning with matchups against Adrian and Mount Aloysius on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
