PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's soccer team was on the losing end of a close 1-0 game with the Rangers of Drew University. Freshman midfielder Dan Cossu netted the only goal of the competition, getting his head on a sweeping cross from fellow Ranger Matt Sommer in the 60th minute of play.
In yet another spirited competition between two very talented teams, the Valiants had multiple late game opportunities including two shots towards target off a
Dan Lorandini (Garden City Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) corner kick in the 87th minute. However, the Valiants were unable to get the ball past Drew goalkeeper Michael Perez who was perfect on the evening, stopping all four shots Manhattanville put on target. Manhattanville junior goalkeeper
Steve Singson (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) matched Perez in total saves, stopping four of the five shots on target.
Coach Miller expressed his disappointment with a high energy and hardworking performance being undone by a couple of basic errors.
"We have to try to take the positives from the overall performance rather than focus on the result," stated Coach Miller after the game. "I can't fault the players' effort tonight. They just have to believe in themselves a little more. The results will come … We will get back to work on Monday to get prepared for a tough opponent on Tuesday night."
Manhattanville travels to King's Point, N.Y. on Tuesday night to take on Merchant Marine in a 7:45 p.m. showdown at Captain James Harvey Tomb Field.
