WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior Meghan Hughes (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades) and sophomore Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East) combined for 13 saves, but it wasn't enough as the King's College (Pa.) offense overpowered the Valiants, leading to a 5-1 setback in a MAC Freedom matchup. 
 
Manhattanville (5-10 overall, 0-4 MAC Freedom) were unable to stop the high-powered offensive attack of King's (11-5 overall, 3-1 MAC Freedom), allowing 19 shots on goal on the night.  The Monarchs jumped out ahead early, earning a 3-0 advantage on goals from Caitlin Wood (2) and Brianna Dimaggio. 
 
Junior Bregje Smits (Bussum, Netherlands/Willen de Zwigger College) had a strong game for the Valiants, registering five shots, two of them on net, and added a defensive save for Manhattanville.  The junior scored her fifth goal of the season late in the first half to cut the deficit to two, but the Monarchs were able to answer just before the end of the half.  Alyssa Monaghan tipped in a loose ball in front of the net with two seconds remaining in the half to put King's back up by three. 
 
Hughes recorded six saves in the half, after being under heavy pressure from the Monarchs for nearly the entire period.  Halloran replaced Hughes in the cage for the second half, and recorded seven saves on eight shots on goal.  Dimaggio tacked on her seventh goal of the season to put the game out of reach for good for the Monarchs. 
 
The Valiants will look to bounce back on Sunday when they play host to the Connecticut College Camels at 4:00 P.M.  Manhattanville will be participating in a nationwide campaign called Play 4 The Cure, wearing pink warmups, pink headbands, and playing with a pink ball in order to show their support for breast cancer research.  In addition to the pink gear, the team parents will be hosting a bake sale and will be accepting donations with all proceeds being donated towards cancer research.  For Valiants fans that cannot make it to GoValiants.com, personal donations towards the cause can be made at https://www.crowdrise.com/chrissyhadgraft-Play4theCure/fundraiser/chrissyhadgraft/join.
