Men's Soccer Seeded Fifth for ECAC Metro/Upstate Championships; Will Face Alfred Wednesday

DANBURY, Conn. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team will continue its season in the  ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Men's Soccer Championship this week, as the Valiants were selected as the fifth seed for the postesason tournament, the conference office announced late Monday night.

Manhattanville will be on the road for the first round on Wednesday, November 11, when the Valiants head north to take on fourth-seeded Alfred University beginning at 7:30 p.m.

For Manhattanville, this is the program's fourth appearance in the ECAC Tournament and first since reaching the semifinals of the ECAC Metro Tournament in 2005.

The Valiants enter the postseason with a 9-6-4 record. The squad reached the MAC Freedom Tournament for the first time in four years this season, falling to top-seeded King's (Pa.) College by a 2-0 score in the semifinals. Manhattanville is led offensively by sophomore Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln), who paces the team with seven goals and four assists, while the defensive leader of the team is sophomore Christoffer Staahl (Lulea, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln), who was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year last week.

Alfred finished the regular season with a 10-5-2 record, with the team's 3-3-1 mark not enough to earn a spot in the Empire 8 Tournament. Richard Lander is the team's offensive leader with 11 goals and nine assists for 31 points, pacing a team that has outscored its opponents 43-19 this year. Keeper Christopher Gutierrez leads a defensive unit that averages just over one goal per game conceded this season as well.
