Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) scored 21 points and hauled in eight rebounds to lead the Manhattanville College women's basketball team to a 71-63 victory over Oneonta State Monday evening in a non-conference matchup.
The 21 points was a season-high for Pabon, as she continued to improve her play against the Red Dragons (4-3 overall). Pabon shot 5-9 from the field, but was able to get in the lane often and make her way to the free-throw line where she went 9-11 on the night.
The Valiants (6-2 overall) never trailed in the game, taking the lead on a layup from senior
Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) in the second minute of the game, leading the rest of the way. Manhattanville outscored Oneonta 19-10 in the first quarter, and extended their lead to 11 at the halftime break.
After extending the lead to 18 early in the third quarter, the Red Dragons used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 11, but Manhattanville answered with a layup from freshman
Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts) to end the run. The two teams traded baskets for the next four minutes, with Oneonta never able to get within eight points.
Franklin had another impressive night for the Valiants, scoring 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Darnell also played a big role for Manhattanville off the bench, scoring seven points on 3-5 shooting in 19 minutes played.
