Maestre and Camacho Lead Men's Cagers Past Keystone, 89-75

LA PLUME, Pa. – Senior Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) led all scorers with 31 points and classmate Juan Camacho (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/New Horizons) added 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Manhattanville College men's basketball team to an 89-75 victory over Keystone College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ace Spaulding Arena.

Maestre had an excellent shooting day for Manhattanville (6-4), hitting 11 of 17 shots from the field and 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. He also added five steals, four rebounds and four assists in the win. Camacho also had an excellent all-around effort, knocking down 9 of 16 shots and also chipping in four assists and two blocks to go with his fourth double-double of the year.

Sophomore Alex Tuci (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and four rebounds as well, while senior Andrew Winter (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) came off the bench to haul in nine boards in 21 minutes for the visitors.

After the teams went into halftime knotted up at 39, Manhattanville put together a big second half, outscoring Keystone (0-6) 50-36 the rest of the way to earn the win. The two teams exchanged leads for the first seven minutes of the second stanza, but Keystone grabbed a 59-56 lead thanks to a 10-2 run culminating in a ShaShawn Drayton layup with 12:20 left.

But the game changed thanks to a huge run by the visitors, a 24-5 spell that turned the three-point deficit into an 80-64 lead with 3:09 remaining. Maestre had 11 points and three assists during the run, including scoring the first seven points by himself to put Manhattanville up 63-59 with 9:26 on the clock. The visitors shot 9-of-15 during the stretch and kept Keystone to 2-of-9 shooting with seven turnovers to pull away.

Tuci added the final three buckets of the run, all off Maestre assists, to give the Valiants their biggest lead of the game (80-64). The lead again grew to 16 in the final minute thanks to a Camacho dunk before eventually settling at 14 following a Maestre free throw that provided the final score.

Manhattanville finished the game shooting 49.2 percent (32 of 65) from the field, thanks in large part to an 18-of-32 effort in the second half. Keystone shot exactly 40.5 percent (15 of 37) in both halves to end the game with the same percentage from the field.

The Valiants will close out 2015 in two weeks on December 30, when the squad travels into the city to take on The City College of New York beginning at 1 p.m.
