Red-Hot Second Half Leads Valiants Past Albertus Magnus 80-67

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) nearly recorded a triple-double, registering 16 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds to lead Manhattanville past Albertus Magnus Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

Raaf was not the only Valiant to have a big game Wednesday, as classmate Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) was once again impressive on the court, scoring a game-high 28 points to go along with nine assists.  Freshman Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) also had another solid game, scoring 16 points off the bench to lead Manhattanville to the victory.

The Valiants (7-2 overall) came out slow in their second game in three days, falling behind the Falcons (6-4 overall) 11-0 midway through the first quarter.  It took until the 4:19 mark for Manhattanville to score their first basket, coming on a jumper from senior Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career).  The Valiants used two six-point runs to cut the deficit down to three-points at the end of the quarter, but a late field goal from the Falcons gave them a five-point lead after the first period of play.

Manhattanville exploded in the second quarter however, outscoring Albertus Magnus 22-9 in the period as they went into the locker room with an eight-point lead.

The Valiants never looked back in the second half, using a red-hot shooting touch from the field to keep the game out of reach.  Manhattanville shot a blistering 72 percent from the field in the second half on 20-28 shooting.  Pabon put on a show late, going 6-7 from the field in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of her 28 points to help hold off the Falcons late and give the Valiants their third consecutive victory.

The Valiants will enjoy a nice break from action to enjoy the holidays before returning to the court on December 30 when they travel to Hunter College for their final game of 2015.
