PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville baseball team scored 15 runs on 15 hits against Purchase on Thursday afternoon, taking down the Panthers by a final score of 15-6 in non-conference play.
Â
Freshman
Anthony LoFaro (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) made his first collegiate start for Manhattanville (5-4), tossing five strong innings, allowing one run on five hits before picking up his first college win. Purchase (0-1) threw six different pitchers who were unable to tame the hot offense of the Valiants.
Â
Senior
Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington) had a phenomenal game for the Valiants, going 3-for-5 at the plate, tallying a run and three RBIs while also collecting five putouts defensively. Sophomore
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) added three RBIs and a run, including a two-run homer in the sixth.
Â
Both teams were scoreless after two innings until Guerra got things started for the Valiants in the third, singling through the left side to bring home sophomore
Anthony Iannuzzi (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas). The Valiants took a 1-0 lead into the fourth and started to pour it on from there. Sophomore
John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) started the rally in the fourth, doubling to left field to score classmate
Joe Anselmi (North Rockland, N.Y./North Rockland). Iannuzzi and junior
Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) each contributed RBI singles before Guerra added a two-run double to make it 6-0 in favor of Manhattanville
Â
Purchase eventually scored its first run of the game in the fifth inning as Robert Michael made his way home on a balk from LoFaro. The Valiants got back to work in the bottom half as Anselmi went yard for a solo home run. A two-run single from junior
Kurt Hommen (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) then made it 9-1 for the Valiants. LoFaro left the game before the sixth inning and Purchase utilized walks to score runs. After the top half of the sixth, the Panthers cut their deficit to four runs, 9-5. For the remainder of the game, the Valiants continued to put in work at the plate. With a two-run homer from Lynch in the sixth, Manhattanville eventually scored three more runs, taking a 14-5 lead. The Panthers scored one more run for the remainder of the contest before the Valiants walked away with a 15-6 win.
