Valiants Drop Double Header To DeSales In Freedom Play

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.- The Manhattanville baseball team struggled to get much going offensively against DeSales on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs in a double header, losing game one by a final score of 5-2 before dropping game two 2-0.

Manhattanville (7-6, 3-2 Freedom) combined for eight hits and two runs against DeSales (5-7, 2-0 Freedom) on Sunday, producing only one hit in game two. For the Valiants, Senior Joe Palmeri (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) and sophomore Dillon Healy (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) made the starts on the mound, pitching 11 combined innings as Palmeri allowed all five funs in game one and Healy gave up two runs in game two.

At the plate, junior Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) manufactured three hits and an RBI, including the only Manhattanville in game two. DeSales' starters Adam Donovan and Cameron Hoos were lights out for the Bulldogs, helping DeSales start off conference play with two consecutive wins. Donovan started game one, tossing six innings, allowing one run on five hits before picking up his first win of the season. In game two, Hoos was one hit away from tossing a no hitter, giving up no runs in seven innings of work.

The Valiants scored first in game one as sophomore Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) connected on a single up the middle in the third inning, scoring classmate Anthony Iannuzzi (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), giving Manhattanville a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs eventually got on Palmeri in the fifth and sixth innings, tallying five runs, including a three-run homer from Drew Borger. Manhattanville got one run back in the seventh inning on an RBI double from Nunez, but the Bulldogs were able to hang on for a 5-2 game one win.

Hoos stole the show in game two, shutting down Manhattanville hitters left and right. After an RBI single from Nick Fischer in the second inning, a one-run lead for Hoos would be all he needed as Valiant hitters struggled to get on base. The Bulldogs eventually added an insurance run in the fifth inning before Hoos picked up his first win of the season, beating the Valiants by a final score of 2-0.

Manhattanville will take on DeSales tomorrow in a rematch at Manhattanville Field starting at 3:30 p.m. Live stats can be accessed via GoValiants.com.
