PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville baseball team scored eight unanswered runs late against DeSales on Monday afternoon, but the Valiants were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling by a final score of 16-9 in Freedom Conference play.

Manhattanville (7-7, 3-3 Freedom) tossed 10 different pitchers against DeSales (6-7, 3-0 Freedom), giving up 16 runs on 12 hits. The Bulldogs took advantage of walks early in the contest, scoring 14 runs in the first three innings of play, including a nine-run second inning.

For the Bulldogs, Andrew Schuler had a solid outing on the mound, tossing five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits. Senior
Joe Pareres (Bronxville, N.Y./Fordham Prep) suffered the loss for the Valiants, pitching one inning, giving up three runs on a three-run homer from Mike Kacergis. After jumping out the gate early, DeSales never looked back, opening up a 14-0 lead after the third inning.

The Valiants got on the board in the fifth inning when it was junior
Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) connecting on an RBI single to left field, scoring freshman
Nick Campana (Yonkers, N.Y./Iona Prep). The Bulldogs tallied two more runs in the sixth inning before Manhattanville finally found life in the seventh. An RBI single from Nunez followed by an RBI double from sophomore
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and then a two-run double from senior
Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington) cut the Valiants deficit to 11, making it 16-5. The Valiants added four more runs in the ninth inning before falling to the Bulldogs by a final score of 16-9.
