EWING, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team was no match for The College of New Jersey on a rainy Tuesday evening, as the Lions, ranked 13th in the latest IWLCA Div. III National Poll, coasted to an 18-0 victory over the Valiants at Lions Stadium.
Facing off against easily its toughest test of the season in less than ideal weather conditions, Manhattanville (3-4) used the contest to work on its defense and also get some players back into playing form before the start of Freedom Conference play on Thursday.
The defense certainly got a lot of work in against TCNJ (6-2), which posted a 22-0 edge in shots and turned the ball over only three times. Kendal Borup led the Lions with seven points on a game-high five goals and two assists, while Cortney Natalicchio (four goals, one assist) and Amanda Muller (one goal, four assists) had five points each as well for the home team.
Sophomores
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) and
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) both had two draw controls for Manhattanville, with Drew also adding one of the team's three ground balls. Classmate
Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made two saves between the pipes against the best shooting team she will see all season.
Manhattanville will begin the important games on Thursday, as the Valiants get first crack at first-year program Delaware Valley College in Doylestown beginning at 4 p.m.
