Valiants Fall to Monarchs in Season Finale, 11-4

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-4 defeat at the hands of King's College, eliminating the Valiants from Freedom Conference tournament contention. Sophomore Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) recorded his sixth hat trick of the season and closed the year on a 13-game point scoring streak.

The Monarchs were first to get on the board at the 13:01 mark of the first quarter. Sophomore Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) scored his 32nd and 33rd goals of the season, both unassisted, at the 4:26 mark and again with just :07 remaining in the first quarter. Sophomore Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) scored his fourteenth goal of the season just 2:04 into the second quarter before Murray completed his hat trick just 61 seconds later.

Those would be the last shots that got by senior goalkeeper William Porkony, who only registered five saves on the day. Manhattanville goalkeeper Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) made 14 saves on the day, recording his seventh game this season with 10+ saves.

After Murray's goal with 11:55 remaining in the second quarter, King's would go on to score 10 unanswered goals, defeating Manhattanville by a final score of 11-4.  It was an unfortunate end for the Valiants, who had the potential to secure the first Freedom Conference Tournament berth in program history heading into Saturday's contest.

Despite the unfortunate end, it was a successful rebuilding year for first year head coach Ryder Bohlander and his team. In an impressive turnaround under Bohlander, the Valiants recorded more wins this season than in the last three years combined.

Despite losing seniors Tony Ramos (Stratford, Conn./Saint Joseph), Cory Balog (Hamden, Conn./Hamden), Jack Polak (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Mike Arena (Stratford, Conn./Saint Joseph) and Tom Tarczali (Stratford, Conn./Saint Joseph), as well as sophomore Lucas Carlin (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley); the Valiants are returning an impressive underclass group, including sophomore Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) who will most likely be tabbed All-Freedom Conference for the second year in a row.

The team will look to the further development of their young players and coaching staff, and will look to bring in a very strong recruiting class to push this program to new heights.
