BRISTOL, R.I. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team picked up their second consecutive win Saturday afternoon with a shutout victory over Roger Williams University 3-0.
The Valiants (2-3) jumped out to an early lead in the 13
th minute when Nicolle Fanelle carried the ball into the left side of the circle and beat keeper Melora Lavoie on the near post for her first career goal and the game's first goal.
Manhattanville came with inches of scoring again in the 24
th minute.
Bregje Smits (Bussum, Netherlands/Willen de Zwigger College) fired a shot from the right side of the circle but her shot hit the right post and stayed out of the cage.
The Hawks had two chances just before the half to tie the game, earning two corners with the clock stopped at the end of the half but both times the Valiant defense held the Hawks without a shot attempt and entered halftime with a one-goal lead.
The Valiant offense continued to show improvement in the second half. In the first ten minutes of the half, Manhattanville was able to earn four corners attempt, with the fourth leading to a Valiant goal.
Morgan Parsons (Bear, Del./William Penn) found Smits off of the corner who was able to beat the keeper and the post this time for her second goal in as many games.
Just four minutes later Manhattanville would strike again. This time
Breanna O'Neill (Hazlet, N.J./Mater Dei Prep) found
Rylee McGuire (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) on the right side of the circle and McGuire was able to beat Mya Lunn on the far post to give the Valiants a 3-0 lead and put the game out of reach for good.

Meghan Hughes (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades) recorded three saves on the afternoon to earn her first shutout of the season.
The Valiants will look to keep their momentum going tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Southern Maine University. Game time is set for 12:00 P.M.
