Women's Soccer Topped by Kean, 3-1

UNION, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 match to Kean University on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Stadium.

Senior Christie DeMarco (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) had the lone goal of the match for Manhattanville (1-3-0), which was outshot by a 26-5 margin but remained in the contest throughout. Shannon Brown, Kaitlyn Pallitto and Emily Jurcsek were the goal scorers for Kean (4-3-0) on the night.

Junior Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) played well in goal for the Valiants, turning aside eight shots and also getting her teammates to help her out with a team save in the first half as well. Kean's KC Nunez made two saves in a scoreless first half to earn the win for the Cougars.

The home team went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Diemicke kept Kean off the scoreboard for nearly 20 minutes in the first half before a save off of a Sabrina Pascarella shot went right to Brown, who found the back of the net in the final seconds of the 20th minute. The lead remained at one until Pallitto headed home a pass from Bronsky to give Kean a 2-0 lead at the 35:54 mark.

Manhattanville did not have a shot in the first 21 minutes of the second half before a quick strike from DeMarco got the visitors back in the game. The senior fired a shot that richocheted off the crossbar, and she gathered the rebound and beat netminder Lauren Healey for her second goal in two matches.

The Valiants only had one more shot on the night, but it nearly was the equalizer as freshman Dany Swidler (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) hit the crossbar with an attempt in the 81st minute. Jurcsek scored a meaningless goal with three seconds left on the clock to account for the final score.

Manhattanville will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to Poughkeepsie to take on Vassar College beginning at 2 p.m.
