DALLAS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team had its postseason chances take a big hit on Wednesday night as the Valiants dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-18) decision to host Misericordia University in a MAC Freedom matchup at the Anderson Center.
Manhattanville (10-4, 0-3 MAC Freedom) remains winless in conference play with the defeat and now will likely have to win its final four conference matches - including a date with AVCA #10 Eastern University next week - to have a chance to reach the postseason. Misericordia (7-12, 3-0 MAC Freedom) remains unbeaten in conference with its third straight MAC Freedom win.
Sophomore
Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) led the Valiants with nine kills on a team-high 23 attempts on Wednesday, followed by sophomore
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) with eight kills on .316 hitting. Freshman
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) chipped in seven kills and a team-best three aces and junior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) contributed the team's lone double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.
The visitors did not have a bad hitting match, putting down 38 kills with 13 errors for a .217 hitting percentage, but instead had trouble slowing down the Cougars from doing likewise. Misericordia hit .311 with 39 kills and only six errors on the night, led by Meghan Stack with 12 kills on .306 hitting to go with 12 digs. Michelle Sehested and Megan Collins added eight kills apiece as well for the Cougars in the win.
Manhattanville will return to action on Saturday at the annual MAC Crossover Tournament, held this year at FDU-Florham. The Valiants will take on Alvernia University and Widener University of the MAC Commonwealth beginning at noon.
