Big Second Half Dooms Men's Basketball as the Valiants Fall to Delaware Valley, 72-53

DOYLESTOWN, PA – A big second half helped spur Delaware Valley to 72-53 win over the Manhattanville men's basketball team on Wednesday night in MAC Freedom action.

Tied 24-24 at halftime, the Aggies opened up the second half with a 20-4 run. Delaware Valley's lead was built all the way up to 24 before the night was over.

"We didn't bring the intensity we needed to early and got down quick," commented Pat Scanlon.

The start of the game went well for the Valiants as Manhattanville led for the first 17 minutes of the game. Seniors Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) and Juan Camacho (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/New Horizons) each scored seven points in the first half to lead the team. The Valiants also held a very high-potent Aggie offense to just 24 points on 32 percent shooting.

"We defended well in the first half," continued Scanlon. "But we were a bit tentative on offense."

The Aggies ended up shooting 42 percent thanks to a 49 percent performance in the second half. Delaware Valley (12-2, 3-0 MAC Freedom) had a big game in the paint outscoring Manhattanville 30-20 in the paint and turned 16 Valiant turnovers into 24 points. The Aggies had four players in double figures including senior Chris Moran who had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Zach Sly led all scorers with 16 points.

Manhattanville (8-6, 1-2 MAC Freedom) shot under 35 percent from the field in the loss. The Valiants were led by their three seniors, Andrew Winter (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) led the team with 14 points and Maestre along with Camacho each had 12 points. Sophomore Alex Tuci (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was the team leader in rebounds with eight and Camacho added seven boards.

Manhattanville will hit the hardwood on Saturday when the Valiants travel to conference foe Misericordia for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

"We need to bounce back tomorrow at practice," concluded the Valiant mentor. "We know what we can do."
