PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team hit .507 and tied the program record for fewest errors in a match with two, as the Valiants remained in the hunt for a MAC Freedom postseason berth with a 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-9) sweep of Delaware Valley University on Wednesday night at Kennedy Gymnasium.
The two errors tie the fewest in a match in program history, achieved twice against Maritime (N.Y.) College in 2012. The team's 38 kills tonight are the most among those three matches, while the team's .507 hitting percentage is just one point off the record of .508 set against the Privateers on October 27, 2012.
Manhattanville (11-6, 3-2 MAC Freedom) had several offensive standouts in the victory. Sophomore
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) was nearly perfect, putting down a career-best 12 kills on 16 errorless attacks (.750) and also added 11 digs for the match's only double-double. Junior
Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) hit .643 with 10 kills on 14 attacks, while fellow junior
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) added nine kills on .474 hitting, six digs and a match-high five service aces.
Senior
Sam Miano (Bronx, N.Y./Maria Regina) chipped in five digs, four aces, four assists and two kills in a well-rounded effort, and classmate
Adrianna Alves (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) led all players with 12 digs and added three aces of her own. Fellow senior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) registered 22 assists and three aces as well on the evening.
The Valiants were flawless in the first set, putting down 12 kills without an error on 20 attacks in taking an early lead. The home team recorded the first nine points on Quinabo's serve and cruised from there, getting four kills from Reid and three each from Dattoma and LiVolsi.
Manhattanville made its only two errors of the match in the middle stanza, but still hit .333 as a team to take a two-set lead. The Valiants then closed out the match with a .667 hitting percentage in the third set, as 14 of their 21 attempts went down as kills and the team added eight aces (including three each from Dattoma and Alves) to complete the sweep.
The Valiants move into a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings with two matches left, with the team likely needing one win in its final two matches to secure its first MAC Freedom Tournament appearance.
The team continues non-conference play on Saturday, when it travels to Bard College for a tri-match with SUNY Delhi beginning at 12 p.m.
