Men's Soccer Earns Crucial Win in Comeback Fashion 3-2 Over King's

PURCHASE, N.Y.  – Senior Omar Parra (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) scored twice in the final 13 minutes to lead the Valiants  back from a 2-1 deficit in the second half to pick up the win and a much needed three points in MAC Freedom play Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

The Valiants were outshot 10-9 on the afternoon, but senior goalkeeper Norbi Bengyel (Budapest, Hungary/PEAC School for Elite Athletes) made five saves on the afternoon to improve to 3-0 in goal this season.  The Hungarian not only earned the win, but added an assist on Manhattanville's first goal, clearing a ball downfield and finding junior Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln) who took one touch past a defender and fired a ball inside the left post to give the Valiants (9-6-0, 2-2-0 MAC Freedom) a 1-0 lead in the second half.

The Monarchs (7-7-0, 2-2-0 MAC Freedom) rallied back though, scoring twice in the next eight minutes to take a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute.

It took until the 78th minute for the Valiants to level the score, when Parra headed in a long cross from sophomore Michael Jean-Charles (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) for his 13th goal of the year.  Manhattanville wasn't done however.  With just over two minutes remaining, freshman Christian Araujo headed a ball to classmate Tim Carsting (Falun, Sweden/Soltorgsgymnasiet) who flicked it ahead to Parra.  Parra took one touch past the defender and chipped a ball over Monarch keeper Owen Geedey to give Manhattanville the win.

The Valiants will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on FDU-Florham Wednesday in Madison, N.J.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
